4 out of 5 stars Solid Toy and Fun   November 18, 2009

My 6 yr old recieved this as a gift. He and his father build it within one hour, it was a bit hard to put the pieces together for my husband's fingers - but perfect for little hands.

My son is been playing with it non stop and picking up items. He's mastered the controls within minutes.

This is geared for 8 year olds, I would recommend that age unless an adult is helping...

3 out of 5 stars Fun, though "robotic" is a stretch   December 29, 2009

Just a few notes:

- "Robotic" is a bit misleading. There aren't batteries or any sort of power involved. You move the hand.

- I don't have an 8-year-old, so I'm not sure whether one could follow the assembly instructions or not. I get the feeling that this is one of those toys where the combination of a child's small fingers and an adult brain make a good team.

- In the end, you still have a Vader arm on your desk, and that's pretty fun.

3 out of 5 stars Iffy at best   December 20, 2009

This toy isn't difficult to put together but it is a bit tedious. Once we got ours together we were very disappointed to find that the fingers don't move. It's impossible to take it apart to discover the problem without breaking the fragile plastic pieces. In theory, this should be an interesting toy to build together with your child. In reality, it was a let down and a disappointment.

3 out of 5 stars Darth Vader Arm   March 24, 2010

I have been reading the reviews on this toy for a while. And while this is for a younger age group, I am a beginner when it comes to kit builders. I've always been a book geek, and I decided to start thinking out side of the box on things to do. This showed my my ability to follow direction has improved. I have always loved putting office furniture together for the shop. So, to me, this was captivating. I found that the parts were pretty sturdy. The quibbles I have is that the diagrams are a tad small, the ability to really "grab" objects is inadequate, but the cats like a Vader pat, and they're scared of everything that reaches toward them.

All-in-all, this is a great beginners item for any space fan. It is simple to put together providing you make sure the finger covers on the back of the hand match the numbers. Otherwise, just start plugging things in according to the diagram.
